Masking Inequality in Maharashtra, Rural India

London, Jul 22, 2020 (Issuewire.com) – The non-governmental organisation, Wells on Wheels delivered masks to underprivileged families in Maharashtra, India. Maharashtra, a state in Western India, is fighting rising daily new Coronavirus cases and deaths. The Wells on Wheels team delivered 2,000 masks to villagers in Kheldari (Chandwad) and Dahiwad (Deola).

Wells on Wheels is a non-profit organization better known for its work in making water more accessible to rural villagers. The organization has delivered water wheels, which can hold five times more water than a standard bucket, to families across India, easing the physical and societal burden water collection places on women and girls.

Girls who must collect water for their families are often unable to attend school, and over time, the physical strain of carrying buckets of water overhead can cause injury to women.

The Covid-19 pandemic has increased the pressure on girls to collect enough water for their families to practice proper hand-washing and hygiene. The Wells on Wheels charity is rising to the occasion to support local villagers in this time of need.
