New Instagram Feature Announced

Add the all-new ‘Gift Cards’ button to your Instagram Profile

Instagram recently announced a ‘Gift Cards’ feature. You can add this button to your profile, and you can even add Gift Card stickers to your Instagram Stories!

The move has been bought about by Instagram to support small businesses. I feel there is no reason Instagram will not keep this feature alive for the long term.

Practices can use this feature to sell one or more gift cards for any pre-purchase, deposit, part payment, or even full payment for future use. Where appropriate, you could redirect people who DM (Direct Message) you to navigate over to the available gift cards on your profile.

I wrote an article about my belief that practices need to be sensitive during the Pandemic about what they post. In follow up to this, I feel adding Gift Cards to your profile, and gently responding to DM’s with an option to pre-purchase a gift card would be entirely acceptable.

You can add the occasional ‘Gift Cards’ sticker in your stories, or even a post that you are now selling Gift Cards and where they need to click to transact for redemption in the post-lockdown world. How you use the feature is up to your imagination. It is too early for me to suggest how you use it actively, though I feel we should keep an open mind and experiment with this feature.

• Pre-Payment / Deposits
• Full Payment
• Consultations
• Gifts

This button shouldn’t replace anything that is working well at the practice! e.g Patients calling the practice. Though, Generation-Mute and Out of Hours patients may appreciate options like this.
